Frequently asked questions

answers and gentle guidance, every step of the way

What does an independent celebrant do?

I create and lead personalised ceremonies that reflect the people, values and wishes at their heart — weddings, vow renewals, naming ceremonies and celebrations of life. I work with you to write and deliver a ceremony that feels completely right for you.

Are your ceremonies religious or non-religious?

Entirely your choice. Your ceremony can be non-religious, faith-neutral, spiritual, or include hymns, prayers and cultural traditions that are meaningful to you. We’ll talk about what feels right for you when we meet.

What is the difference between a registrar and an Independent Celebrant?

A registrar performs the legal marriage. An Independent Celebrant creates a completely personalised ceremony around you and your story.

In England and Wales, you complete the legal marriage requirements separately through a register office, leaving your celebrant-led ceremony free to take place where, when and how you choose.

Is a celebrant-led wedding legally binding?

A celebrant-led wedding ceremony is not itself the legal marriage in England and Wales. Most couples complete the legal requirements at a register office and then celebrate with a completely personal celebrant-led ceremony, with freedom over the venue, words and format. I can guide you through how this works.

Can the ceremony be personalised?

Every ceremony is written individually, from scratch. Music, readings, poems, photographs, personal tributes, symbolic elements and contributions from family and friends are all welcome — your story shapes every word.

Where do you conduct ceremonies?

Anywhere that is meaningful to you: wedding venues, hotels, gardens, beaches, woodlands, crematoria, burial grounds and family homes across South Wales — and further across the UK by arrangement.

Will we meet before the ceremony?

Yes, always. We meet in person, by phone or online to talk through your wishes and gather everything needed to create your ceremony. You will see and approve the full script before your ceremony.

Can family or friends take part?

Of course. Family and friends are warmly welcome to speak, read or take part. If someone would rather not speak on the day, I can read their words on their behalf.

How long does a ceremony last?

Most ceremonies last between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on the occasion, the venue and your wishes. Every ceremony is different, so we’ll create a length and pace that feels right for you.

Do you work with venues and funeral directors?

Yes. I work closely with venues, wedding coordinators and funeral directors to make sure your ceremony fits smoothly within the arrangements and runs calmly on the day.

What is a Celebration of Life ceremony?

A Celebration of Life is a ceremony centred around honouring and remembering a loved one — often less formal than a traditional funeral and shaped around the memories, stories and music that reflect who they were. It can be held in a setting that feels right for you, including following a direct cremation.

How much does a celebrant cost?

Fees are set out clearly on the pricing page and discussed openly — no surprises. Please get in touch for a conversation about your occasion; there is never any obligation.

How do we book?

Simply call or email for an initial conversation. It’s a chance to talk through your plans, ask anything you like, and see whether I’m the right celebrant for you.

Still have a question?

Ask away — there’s no such thing as a silly question, and never any obligation.

Every ceremony begins with trust.

Every story deserves to be shared.
